The government announced this consulate in August 2019, with North and South Carolina as its territory. It also served Tennessee until the Nashville consulate opened in 2023.

In August 2026 Charlotte joined the RNPN centers that print DUIs the same day. If you already have a DUI, you can also renew or replace it online at dui.sv/exterior for $55. Tennessee residents may want to keep Charlotte in mind: Nashville's DUI center is temporary and scheduled to run only until November 29, 2026.
